Phoenix Leadership Academy

The National Council of Negro Women Inc. Los Angeles View Park Section (NCNW) would like to present the Phoenix Leadership Academy for Girls. Our purpose is to develop leadership skills in girls ages 8 to 13, with an underlying focus on prevention of juvenile crime, teen pregnancy & disease, and enhancing academic achievement; while providing information on emotional management, character building, and career paths in the fields of science, math, and medicine.  NCNW View Park fulfills this mission through research, advocacy, national and community based services and programs in the Los Angeles Area.

Curriculum
The Phoenix Leadership Academy curriculum focuses around 8 topics.  Each subject is covered comprehensively over an 8 week period.   Classes will be offered as a component of Summer Night Lights and held at Jordan Downs, Imperial Courts, Nickerson Gardens and Pueblo Del Rio Housing Developments. Girls 9 through 14 years of age will participate in one (2) hour session once per week.  Field trips for cultural and educational enrichment as well as for reinforcement of learned skills will be an integral part of the program.  Throughout the program participants will be exposed to professional and successful role models to enhance the possibility of personal success.
